Missional Outpost: Missional Morality

American society was founded on the principles of Christian values and which were incredibly important to the founding fathers.  Yet, for those who look around the world we live in today, it seems that these ideals and core values have eroded over time.  Sure, there are insightful explanations for why this has occurred and how the church in…

Missional Outpost: A Shining Light For All To See

If the past year has taught us anything, it is that the world has most assuredly changing. We have surpassed another year and walked into 2017 as the world continues to shape and form around us.  For some, this was marked by a difficult time, for others a time for celebration.  Yet from whatever background you come…

A Convenient Time of the Year to Make Changes

I think we all deep down are scared of the phrase “New Year, New Me.”  Not because people are not making New Years resolutions and not because making resolutions are a bad thing.  This phrase makes us cringe a bit because of the countless times that people have said it and ended up being the…

Immanuel

Advent: Immanuel

We have been looking through the various weeks of advent and at the end of the season of advent, we arrive at Christmas. While this does somewhat signify the end of the advent season, somehow calling it “the end” does not seem fair or fitting. The coming of Christ was by no means “the end” and his second coming will certainly not be the end either. It is the beginning. It is the beginning of new life. It is the beginning of healing. It is the beginning of redemption and our homecoming to our relationship with our Creator and Heavenly Father. Advent means Coming. Christmas reminds us that God has come and He is Immanuel, God with us.

Advent: The Coming of Love

During this forth week of Advent, we light the candle of love.  As we celebrate this forth week of advent, we come to the embodiment of not only the mission of God, but the embodiment of God, Himself.  God is love.  Love is defined by any act that is of God.  With Christ’s coming into the world,…

Advent: The Coming of Joy

Advent: The Coming of Peace

During this second week of Advent, we light the peace candle also called the candle of preparation.  We see the coming of peace in the most unlikely of circumstances.  For a coming Messiah and King, a baby is born in a manger in a lowly state.  Where you would expect the coming of a King to…

Advent: The Coming of Hope

With four weeks until Christmas, the Christian Church enters a time referred as “Advent.”  Advent, which means “coming,” is a time of preparation and celebration as we anticipate and celebrate the coming of our Savior in the form of a child, born in a manger.  If you were in a church on Sunday, more than…

Enough

Enough: I Have Had Enough

So, here I sit.  It is 2:30am and my mind is racing.  Not in a bad way either.  Today has been marked, all day, by merely conversations about God.  Conversations of where faith and life violently collide.  And in the midst of that, one of the most honest conversations took place where two people could…

Enough: Are You Enough?

We have come to God knowing that we are not enough but that God loves us despite whatever we do.  Yet, for whatever reason, we can know that God’s love for us goes beyond our ability to earn it and still hesitate to give Him our lives.  There is a deep seeded fear that God is not…
